Notes & Disclosures

Educational reference, not veterinary advice.

Pet-Proof Plants compiles publicly available toxicology and botanical information to help you make informed choices about plants in your home. It is not a substitute for veterinary care.

How to read our classifications

Safe on this site means the plant is not known to be toxic to the listed pet in ordinary household exposure, based on sources like the ASPCA, Pet Poison Helpline, the Merck Veterinary Manual, and peer-reviewed toxicology references.

It does not guarantee a particular animal won't have an allergic or idiosyncratic reaction, nor that eating large quantities is harmless. Toxic means at least one credible source documents adverse effects; severity varies widely.

Affiliate links

Some links to retailers (such as Amazon) on plant detail pages are affiliate links. If you buy a plant through one of those links we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate relationships do not influence which plants we classify as toxic or non-toxic, which we recommend as safer alternatives, or the order they appear.

Classifications are based on the toxicology sources listed in the How to read our classifications section above.
